ash dieback

Ash dieback is becoming increasingly present in Devon & Dorset.

Ash dieback is a disease that affects ash trees, caused by a fungus called Hymenoscyphus fraxineus. The fungus blocks water transport in the tree, leading to lesions in the bark, leaf loss and the dieback of the crown.

The main advice is spot it early and take steps to deal with it, as the disease gets embedded within individual trees or woodlands the options get more limited & more expensive.

Although some reports may lead you to think Ash Dieback is all doom and gloom it’s important that we remain optimistic.

There are a number of species that depend solely on the Ash for habitat. We do however recommend interventions where public safety or a duty of care is a concern.

The best time to survey trees is mid to late summer before the early onset of Autumn.

Please get in touch if you have any concerns and would like to discuss management options.
